One of the big misconceptions about Washington, is that men don’t know how to dress. Plus many believe there’s no place to find great clothing. I’ve always thought both of these beliefs were a huge fallacy. However, if you look at the people who make the news in town, I can see why many buy in to these false notions. As part of an ongoing series for this site, the DCFashion Fool will be showcasing some great stores for men located here in the Nation’s Capital. I’ll be showcasing e terrific looks and encouraging guys to check out these spots if looking to up their style game. First stop: the Canali boutique in City CenterDC.
Canali is one of those labels that has been around in DC for some time. Carried in all of the higher end department stores in the metropolitan area (Nordstroms, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdales and Neiman Marcus), the Italian clothier opened its 9th boutique in City CenterDC in 2015. As one of the first stores to open at City Center, the boutique is bringing a new level of shopping for men right in the heart of the city. Men now have access to pieces that cannot normally be found in the department stores along with the company’s made to measure program.
The label itself has been around since 1934 and is known for its well made Italian suiting. And the company takes the Made in Italy label seriously. In order to control the quality of their pieces, all of their collections are produced directly by Canali-owned production centers throughout Italy. The company prides itself on using the best fabrics and materials for the interiors, linings and buttons of a Canali suit and they are all designed, cut and sewn by Italians.
One of my go to looks is their dark gray Prince of Wales Sienna suit. The classic grey suit with its subtle pattern makes it an excellent choice when sporting gray tonal looks. Plus adding a pop of color to the grey suit helps to bring out the pattern distinctive pattern.
Recently, it seems that the trend for men is to ditch the suit and become more casual. And while guys have been gravitating more to the athleisure look, there’s still a growing number who still treasure a more tailored style. Here using just a few pieces I’ve styled two elevated casual looks. The stylish gentlemen can still be tailored but rock a more relaxed look.
