Earlier this month the Pinea Patio at the W Hotel hosted a viewing party for the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic. Any time there’s an opportunity to enjoy Veuve, you know you can count me in. Over the last few years, Veuve Clicquot and the W Hotel have partnered to put on some really fun events so naturally I couldn’t miss this one.
The Polo Classic is an annual event held just outside of New York. This year marked the 10th Anniversary and since I could not make the trek to New York, the W was the next best option. Big screen TVs, small bites and flowing champagne were the order of the day. But I have to say with the free flowing champagne, I didn’t see much of the match.
In the spirit of the Classic, I figured I’d at least sort of dress the part. I wasn’t going full out like the Preakness but thought a blazer would be fun. A fun jacket can make a basic short and tee combination look much dressier. Since it was going to be hot, I wanted to keep cool yet look smart. All white is a great look for summer and adding the blazer was the perfect finishing touch. I threw on some bright blue driving loafers and I was ready to drink ALL the champagne.
A great blazer has so much versatility. It can be dressed up one day yet sporty and casual the next. For a more traditional look, go for a simple navy blazer. If you’re more daring, opt to make a statement with bold pattern. Geometric shapes or a striking plaid are some excellent options. While my jacket is no longer available I’ve provided a few options that would be great for summer.
