One of the things I always say is that if you’re going to have just one suit, it should be a good navy suit. The blue suit can be very versatile and so appropriate for many occasions. In this post, I’m wearing it as a terrific classic look. In a subsequent post, I’ll be showing a more casual style. That’s right two looks out of one suit!
Lately, when I’ve been wearing suits, I’ve had a penchant for bold stripes and bright colored accessories. Yes I said penchant. Kinda like when Cher was teaching Taj the word “sporadically” in Clueless. But I digress. Despite my love of more statement looks there is something to be said about the clean look of a navy suit.
For part 1 of my two looks out of one suit, I’ve paired my suit with a crisp white shirt. If you look closely you can see a tonal striping in the detail. Combining these elements with a simple patterned tie, I’ve created the perfect boardroom look which would also work for any semi-formal affair.
In the look I’ve kept my accessories to a minimum. A gray striped pocket square to add a little contrast to the look and monkstraps for shoes. When wearing a suit, I tend to stay away from loafers. I’m not saying that I never wear them but I tend to gravitate towards monk straps or lace-ups. Similarly when wearing a suit, you’ll rarely if ever see me in buttoned down shirt. I just think it helps to keep the look a little more elevated.
Let me know your thoughts of my first look in my two looks out of one suit challenge. Coming up I’ll show you how with just a few changes, I can make this suit a little more casual.
