It’s been a few weeks since New York Fashion Week Men’s and I’ve had a chance to reflect on my experience. In the eight seasons since there has been a fashion week dedicated to men in New York a lot has changed. With a lighter schedule, I questioned whether there still was a need for a fashion week at all. And while it was lighter, there are still points of view that should be expressed and new designers that need to be seen. So I think the answer is still yes.
Fashion Week is one of those unique experiences that given the opportunity and the desire, you should experience for yourself. That’s part of the reason I like attending. While it’s hectic and I complain while being up there, it’s an experience I wouldn’t trade for the world. I love being able to give a front row seat of everything that goes on during the week and a first look at the fashions we’ll be seeing in future seasons.
This year much has changed for New York Fashion Week Men’s. With less funding, the loss of a truly central location and the compressing of the fashion schedule, I worried that we’d might lose Men’s fashion week altogether. Fortunately, the CFDA has already put out their calendar through 2020 and Men’s is still firmly on it. So I’m determined to try to get the best out of it while it’s a viable entity. I think there are 3 ways to benefit from a New York Men’s Fashion Week.
Embrace and showcase New York Fashion Week Mens
As I mentioned, many people will never have the opportunity to go to fashion week. I want to be an avenue to those who want to see the upcoming fashions, interviews and street styles that go on during the week. For instance, check out my coverage from this season. Plus there’s still more to come. I hope to be bringing a behind the scenes of a fashion show in the new few weeks. There really is something for everyone.
Forge new relationships
Fashion week is a time to make new connections and expand relationships. As an influencer, it’s a great time to meet new brands and agencies. It’s these connections that help me introduce new designers and collections that we might not otherwise see. This year I introduced you to New York designers ONS and Dear Miler. In addition, I once again showcased David Hart, which I first discovered at Fashion Week years ago. Finally I’ve been able to show old favorites having interviewed John Varvatos and in an upcoming article, Joseph Abboud. Who knows who’s coming?
Meet other creatives
New York Fashion Week is a time for many to flock to the city. Here they are producing great content for their followers and doing much of the same things I am doing. Meeting with these likeminded individuals helps me to improve my content as well as introduce other styles and points of views to my followers. Creating relationships and collaborating with these amazing individuals will only help improve my content. By the week, one great creative took these awesome pics: Diego Leon – Dandyinthebronx
Men are increasingly taking an interest in their style and fashion. As the DCFashion Fool part of my mission to help guys look and see what’s out there. New York Fashion Week Men’s is just a terrific avenue to help with this goal. What do you think of New York Fashion Week Men’s? Is there anything you’d like me to cover? Let me know.

My day three look was a throwback to the first New York Fashion Week I attended. I wore this sweater during very first Fashion Week trip. Styled a little differently, it still looks great today.
