One of the best times to be in Washington is when the cherry blossoms make their appearance during the spring. On Saturday, I, along with a few thousand of my closest friends, ventured downtown to check out this year’s display. Despite the crowds, it was a beautiful day. The cherry blossoms where at their peak, the tidal basin looked stunning and the weather was incredible.
Saturday was truly the perfect day for the annual National Cherry Blossom Festival and Parade, now celebrating it’s 80th year. Since the peak blooms don’t often coincide with the actual day of the parade, this was definitely a day not to be missed.
While there were some major hiccups: the incident at the Capital and snarled traffic, nothing can really take away from the spectacle which makes it a popular must see event this time of year. We owe Japan a debt of gratitude for gifting us these marvelous plants further beautifying our wonderful city.
Since I can’t compete with the beauty of the blossoms, I chose to try to compliment them with a sporty spring look pairing a simple blue cardigan with cream accents over a blue check shirt (both by Armani) with wide legged striped Ferragamo slacks. The checks and stripes are somewhat offset by the cardigan but still give that subtle power clash effect. Sneakers are by Prada.
