Less than two years ago, Ladurée brought its famous macarons and decadent pastries to the Washington area. Naturally being a dessert freak and a macaron lover, I was at the opening of the Georgetown location. Since then I have been known to pop into the Georgetown store as well as the Union Station for a little fix. And with some new spring additions at Ladurée, there’s even more reason to make trips to the French bakery.
For spring, Ladurée invited chef Mori Yoshida to put his spin on French pastry. He’s reinterpreted French pastry classics with Japanese flavors and flair. These new Ladurée additions are just in time to celebrate Washington’s Cherry Blossom season and usher us right into Easter.
Ladurée’s new spring additions include a white chocolate and yuzu macaron, a chocolate and matcha pastry as a well as a chocolate egg creation, available in limited quantities and exclusively at Ladurée stores. In addition, Chef Yoshida has also created the Mori Tartlet, a chocolate-sakura tartlet. Naturally as soon as they became available, I had to “volunteer as tribute” and try them all!
Spring not only means new pastry goodies but it’s also a chance to bring out the spring wardrobe. I picked up this suit last year and this season bold stripes will still be a hot ticket. Don’t believe me? Check out the new Suit Supply ad which features a chalk striped suit prominently in its ads. For spring, dress it up and it’s ideal for an afternoon tea. However this suit is pretty versatile, lose the tie or swap out the shirt and tie for a white tee for a more casual look. Add white kicks and you’re good to go.
What to wear to tea at Ladurée
Chalk striped navy suit – Paisley and Gray | White shirt – Saks Fifth Avenue | Yellow paisley tie – Bloomingdales | Yellow pocket square – Brooks Brothers | Monk strap shoes – Jimmy Choo (similar) | Connected watch – Kronaby
