I love that fact that “everything” has it’s own special day. So I’m excited that it’s World Pasta Day! This should not be confused with National Pasta Day. That was last week. And of course I celebrated that day as well. All of these celebrations, which I can’t say no to, helps explains my every expanding waistline.
I have to admit that lately I have not been cooking that much. I love being the Man About DC and showcasing the best that Washington has to offer. So I’ve been attending a lot of events and dinners. The idea is to share where to go around town and how to dress for the occasion.
If I were cooking, my favorite dish would be Pasta Surprise! As long as I have pasta in the house, I can make a meal. The surprise is two fold, One is I generally can’t repeat the creation and two is it may or may not be good. Surprise! But no one wants to see me at home cooking in my sweats. It would be a bad episode of Nailed It!
So for World Pasta Day, instead of me trying to dazzle you with one of my hit or miss creations, let’s talk about enjoying pasta at some place that will hit the mark, Sfoglina. I was recently invited there for lunch with Capitol File Magazine. The occasion: La Dolce Vita in the Nations Capitol. Attire: Dress to impress.
Executive Chef Philip Marzelli created a sumptuous meal that was not only photography worthy but just as delicious as it looked. I loved the fact that the dishes were served in the Corningware. These were the same type my mom used. Even better was the set up of sharable portions so I wasn’t limited to just one dish!
Sfoglina is one of the restaurants owned by Maria and Fabio Trabocchi. I attended the lunch at the one right in the heart of downtown and there’s another up in Van Ness. They also own their flagship, Fiola at 6th and Pennsylvania Ave, Fiola Mare at the Georgetown Waterfront and Del Mar, the latest attention at the Wharf. And just as it gets cold here in DC, they are about to open Fiola Miami.
So how did I dress to impress?
You can never go wrong with a traditional navy suit. It’s always sharp and can be dressed up or down. For my look, I paired it with a banker’s striped shirt and floral tie. Perfect for business or an elegant lunch with some of DC’s most stylish.
Navy suit – Suit Supply | Banker’s striped shirt – Budd Shirtmakers | Blue paisley tie – Gucci (similar)| Brown lace-ups – Ferragamo
