Every Fashion Week season, I eagerly await the start of New York Fashion Week with New York Men’s Day. This event, curated by Agentry PR, has always been a platform for showcasing new and emerging menswear designers. In Spring/Summer 2024, it did not disappoint, offering a stage to 10 promising designers. Join me as we delve into the morning and afternoon sessions and uncover some of my favorite looks from each designer. While only a few of the looks are featured here, you can see more of the designers’ collections on Men’s’ Life DC.
Clara Son Studios
Clara Son Studios kicked off the day for me, leaving a strong impression. The monochrome looks paired with sheer sweaters caught my eye. These trends are setting the tone for sheer sweater weather in 2024.
B|M|C Studios
Brandon Murphy’s B|M|C Studios collection feature well-tailored pieces. The words that keep used to describe his work are elegant and sophisticated. The suiting pieces are nothing short of drool-worthy.
Terry Singh
Terry Singh’s innovative approach to menswear, featuring suits with a skirt, is intriguing. He believes a suit with a skirt can be worn for any occasion. I found myself drawn to the more formal pieces, envisioning occasions to flaunt such attention-grabbing attire.
Kent Anthony
Kent Anthony‘s “Make ‘Em Say Your Name” collection exudes a retro 70’s vibe with a modern twist. The blue embellished jacket was an absolute showstopper.
APOTTS Collection
Aaron Potts’ APOTTS Collection stood out from the other designers showing during the first session of New York Men’s Day. The collection featured more flowy casual looks with captivating gowns for the women sprinkled in. If you are a fan of gold, you won’t want to sleep on Potts’ gold overcoat. It’s sure to grab attention next spring/summer.
My New York Men’s Day Look
My outfit was a tribute to Terry Singh’s collection. While I don’t own any of Singh’s clothing yet, I proudly wore a skirt in support. My look is entirely from Thom Browne, renowned for his bold use of skirting in menswear. My skirt comes with a matching blazer, but I decided to pair it with a sweater for a twist.
Pro tip: My look is from Spring/Summer 2023, so it’s currently sold out. However, you can often find amazing pieces in the sales sections of stores like Farfetch, SSense, , Nordstrom and even Walmart. My shoes are from Brooks Brothers’ now-discontinued Black Fleece line, a remarkable collaboration between Brooks Brothers and Thom Browne, the genius behind the collection.
Conclusion
New York Men’s Day Spring/Summer 2024 was a testament to the ever-evolving world of men’s fashion. Emerging designers, innovative styles, and timeless classics merged to create a memorable showcase. As I continue to explore the fashion world, I can’t wait to see what the future holds for menswear.
