Mid Winter is the time to pick up a great winter coat

If you have the opportunity, now is the time to pick up a great winter coat. A quality coat can last a lifetime. Fortunately, with the end of the season sales and new coat is right within reach. Think of your winter coat as an investment; something to keep for years to come.

One of my favorite coats is actually not one I invested in at all. It’s actually a coat handed down from my father. My dad had an interesting fashion sense. He was the master of mixing high and low fashion. This charcoal gray cashmere beauty is an example of his high fashion sense. My dad had it handmade on Saville Row and it was one of his favorite pieces. I remember growing up that it was one of the pieces I always treasured on him. Now that it’s mine, it helps me remember him.

My dad picked this coat up in the early 1950’s. In the late eighties, he decided it was too long and had it shortened. Yet he kept it in excellent condition. To give it an extra lux look, I’ve added a detachable faux fur collar. Now that I have my great investment piece, how do you go about finding yours?

This is a weird time of year. Those in the fashion industry are in the midst of seeing the fall/winter clothes that would be perfect for today. However these pieces will not be available until late summer in anticipation of next fall/winter. And while we are in the middle of winter, most winter clothes are already gone from the stores. However, if you act now you can find a real stunner that will last for years to come.
