As the final show on the first day of New York Fashion Week Men’s, Todd Snyder once again proved that his collection has earned its place as a not to be missed runway show. Although, Snyder’s inspiration came from London’s pre-Savile set and the East End of London’s youth, his collection was decidedly New York. His Fall/Winter collection was a hit.
Oversized and colorful, Snyder’s collection gave a new twist on the preppy look. This season Snyder gave prep style a rebellious rethink, fusing his respect for the iconic school uniform and mixing it with an irreverent New York sensibility. Classic pieces such as toggle coats, plaid suiting, tweed overcoats and crew neck sweaters where given a modern twist. The collection was a peek at the collegiate looks from the 60s, 70s and even early 80s given an updated twist. This take made the designs look fresh for today.
With this collection, one can see how Snyder has also been influenced by his previous work. He previously spent time working at Polo Ralph Lauren, the Gap, and J. Crew. He’s become quite skill at taking modern basics and elevating them to a higher level using lux fabric and fit.
The entire collection of 40 looks was quite strong and styled by Jim Moore, GQ creative director at large. Fans of Snyder would want to transport the entire collection directly into their personal closets. However some of the 3 favorites look included:
Another added perk to the show was the introduction of Todd Snyder’s newest collaboration with Timex, the new Mid Century Watch. The collection can be purchase at Todd Snyder’s flagship store on Madison Avenue in New York and on line through ToddSnyder.com and MrPorter.com.
