New York Fashion Week Men’s (NYFWM) may have been much smaller than in year’s past but what has not diminished is the splendor and grandeur of a Joseph Abboud runway show. Abboud presented his runway collection on the first day of New York Fashion Week Men’s. It was one of the most anticipated shows of the day.
The American designer has been a mainstay since the inception of men’s fashion week. Abboud has made a name for himself by presenting lavish runway shows with each show out topping the other. This season was no exception.
For Fall/Winter 2019, Joseph Abboud looked to the words etched on the Statute of Liberty on Ellis Island. It was these words welcoming the brave travelers who came to the New World in search of the American Dream that inspired this newest collection. It was only fitting that Abboud presented his runway show at Pier 16, part of the South Street Seaport Museum. Models disembarked off a ship in clothes inspired to change their destiny.
That Abboud is known for his use of lux fabrics is no surprise. The Fall collection features washed tweeds, vintage velvets and time worn flannels expertly layered into stunning combinations that exploded on the runway. The mixture of texture and pattern seemingly blended haphazardly worked well, giving the appearance of a treasured wardrobe lovingly cared for and handed down.
Joseph Abboud’s designs have the classic American appeal. Cuts are fuller unlike the slimmer looks traditionally seen in European designs. The collection was one of the ideal representations of American ingenuity. Even the footwear was a testament to the American heritage with Abboud’s collaboration with Allen Edmonds.
Joseph Abboud clothing can be found at his flagship store and online at JosephAbboud.com. Abboud also service as the creative director for Men’s Wearhouse.
