One of the designers synonymous with New York Men’s Day is David Hart. David Hart has been a mainstay helping to kick off of New York Fashion Week Men’s since its inception. As a result, it’s always one of those shows attendees flock to especially since Hart’s collections come from so many different inspirations.
For the last Fall/Winter collection, Hart showed a capsule collection in blacks and beiges. While the looks where shown monochromatic, one could easily see mixing up the tonal look by interchanging the pieces. For Spring/Summer 2019, Hart’s collection hit more closer to home Washingtonians with pieces inspired the Watergate Scandal of the seventies. So it was only natural to wonder what Hart had store this season.
This season at first glance, it appeared that the designer’s collection was a play on black and white with some signature formal pieces thrown in for good measure. However about closer inspection many of the pieces had interesting photography imagery in them. It’s this imagery that makes this season’s collection interesting and fun. The reason behind it? For Spring/Summer 2020 David Hart announced a partnership with the International Center of Photography and Weegee Estate.
Weegee, also known as Arthur Fellig, was a black and white photographer known for his street photographer. It is some of these images that have been turned into some fun fashionable pieces for the season. Most noticeable is a photograph of buxom beauty that pops up on tee shirts, jackets and more strikingly a fantastic trench. Another interesting aspect to the collection is Hart’s increase use in double-breasted styles for suiting. This trend was also spotted in the Spring Summer Timo Weiland collection. While Hart stuck to a black, white and navy palette, the collection did have pops of color with the use of Christian Louboutin shoes to complete the looks.
