J Brand jeans: My perfect fit

Recently, my favorite pair of jeans ripped. Sure, I have other pairs of jeans, but these were the ones that fit me the best. With so many different brands and fits in denim, it can be challenging to find that perfect pair. And just my luck! Of course, my J Brand denim didn’t rip in a cool place. Not in the knee so I could rock that cool ripped style. No, they ripped in the inner thigh. A very unflattering place! That’s mean my great looking comfortable jeans were no longer going to be my casual Friday work pants, my night out with friend’s jeans or my I have nothing to wear so I’ll just throw these on pants. Bummer!

Do you know your jean fit?

I’m a relatively tall guy with large thighs and amble booty. Skinny jeans definitely do not work on me.  My fit is a straight leg that is a little relaxed in the thigh. I like a tiny bit of stretch. But how do you determine your perfect fit. I say start with two questions:

  • Are you comfortable?
  • Do you think you look good in a particular fit?

My denim search

My J Brands were the perfect fit. I knew it was only a matter of time before they were going to head to the jean graveyard. And normally when that happens, I’d start the hunt for a replacement pair. Of course, I’m always looking for them at a bargain. It became a game to pick up a pair of J Brand jeans in the Kane fit for under a $100 bucks. The last time I was able to nab them for about $90 bucks and a burgundy pair for $79.

This has great brand to hunt for because you could always find them in tons of places. I’ve bought J Brand from East Dane, Gilt, Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue I was going to get a  real steal.  But for some reason they were hard to find. I was going to … (Dare I say it?) …. Pay full price!  Heading to the J Brand website and to my shock the selection was even more limited. And if you head there now, this is what you’ll find:

In a panic, I did what we do when we need to find answers. I googled it. Side note: Yes, google is a verb. It’s in the Meriam Webster dictionary and it’s even a valid word in Scrabble! But I digress. I typed, “Is J Brand closing?” The short answer yes and no. In November of 2020, WWD’s wrote, “the Los Angeles-based premium denim brand owned by the Fast Retailing Group, is pivoting to a direct-to-consumer model.”

Had I been paying attention to my email, I would have noticed this post….

No What?

NO!!!! What does that mean? Where was I going to find those perfect jeans for guys with a little junk in the trunk and big thighs from all the years of teaching spinning? Sure, I have other brands of jeans but they don’t fit me like these do. Do I need to scour the internet and start snapping up the last of the jeans like I had to for the replacement heads for my discontinued Clarisonic?

Now if you head to their site, you’ll be greeted with this:

Hopped over to Gilt snapped up a quick pair. They still had my size! But had I read a little farther in the WWD article or even my email I would have discovered that my favorite jeans would be available through its sister stores. J Brand are still being sold through Uniqlo and Theory stores. Currently sizes and styles are limited. For a denim brand, that has been around since 2005, I hope they will return with a vengeance. In the meantime, I’ll be on the hunt for those elusive remaining pairs. However, if you can recommend any other brands I should try drop me a comment below.
