Despite the rise in athleisure and the every popular business casual, a great suited look is still a superb way to dress your best. Although many believe that the suit is slowly dying that’s not the case especially here in Washington. And while there will always be a need for that traditional suited look, there are plenty of ways to spice up your suit game. One great trend, especially as we head into the fall season is to try a tonal look with your suiting.
A tonal look is a fantastic way to try a hot trend with a traditional style. A tonal look or monochromatic dressing is the idea of wearing one color for your entire outfit. While it’s been popular look among women, men can rock this trend as well. In the spring and summer months, it’s typically done with lighter colors but as the weather gets cooler, it’s the darker color that work best.
The easiest way to jump on this style is to go with black. Greys, charcoals and blues also work well for a monochromatic style but also think of adding a bit of color. Burgundy makes a great choice this season. It’s a bold color but not too flashy or cartoonish.
One way to make a tonal looks stand out is to add pattern and/or texture. In my look, I’m wearing a floral shirt in the same color as my suit. Worn with out a tie and black slip-ons, the look is a bit more casual. It’s perfect for a night out on the town. Adding a tie and change my shoes to a pair of loafers, I now have a dressier look. For those in the creative space or working in a little less formal business environment, this can be a great office look. For others, try this tonal look for a cocktail party or some other dressier occasion.
