I’m really loving the gray and brown combination these days. I was given this brown tie from ties.com and asked to style it. The challenge was to pair it with some of the company’s accessories and come up with a look. Always up for a challenge, I was ready to take it on.
Washington, DC has been unseasonably rainy and cool for this time of year so I took my look to sunny San Jose who was embracing a nice sunny warm spell. To go along with the tie, I selected a brown and pink striped pocket square, a hot pink tie clip and some cufflinks to match. Unfortunately, I received the wrong cufflinks but I thought a bit of bling from the ones I received could be fun.
I figured I’d pair the tie and the accessories with a nice gray suit. I’ve previously went tonal in a heavier gray suit for winter (see The Down Puffer Vest Part II) so I wanted to see what I could come up with for spring. I think gray and brown both get a bad rap so bringing them together was my next choice. The pink served to add a nice pop of color and is great for this time of year. Even the cufflinks, which were a little flashy for my tastes, added some fun to the outfit. I finished off my look with a light brown pair of monk straps and of course a fantastic pair of sunglasses.
Gray is a great color for spring especially in the nice lighter shades. Brown is not that drab color that people make it out to be and yes it can be worn during the spring too. If styled correctly gray and brown can be fantastic pieces to add to your fashion arsenal.
