Today’s Father’s Day and while my dad is no longer with us, I’m still celebrating him. After all my dad had a lot to do with the sense of style that I have today. It’s been a little over 4 year since he’s passed but I still think about him all the time. So this a Father’s Day salute in honor of him.
I’m wearing my seersucker suit which I know he would’ve loved. While my dad had a pretty good sense of style, occasionally he had some sartorial missteps. One of which was his seersucker suit bargain. He and a good friend went shopping one day and to my mother’s horror came home with a pretty tacky seersucker suit. The kicker? The both bought the same suit (a 2 for 1 special) at a ridiculously low price.
My suit is not your typical seersucker. Sure it’s lightweight and sporty like a traditional suit but it’s done in a great navy color. While seersucker still comes in those pastel blues, greens and pinks, you can also find today’s modern versions in navys, greys and darker greens. These additional color choices offer more options for combatting hot and humid summers especially like the ones we have here in Washington.
Details where everything to him. He’d always have a great tie and pocket square and was the king of the tie bar. And let’s not forget shoes. He loved a great pair of shoes. I can’t tell you how happy I was when I could finally wear his shoe size (I wore out some of his best pairs!). That in itself deserves a Father’s Day salute.
So today I raise my I.W. Harper on the rocks to my dad for my Father’s Day salute. He wasn’t a big drinker but if he were around he’d definitely cheers with me. If you’re a father, I hope you have an awesome day. For those father’s or father figures in your life don’t forget to give them a Father’s Day salute and make it an awesome day for them.
