Washington has just gotten lucky with the opening of Ladurée this spring. The famed luxury French bakery and sweet maker opened up a boutique and restaurant in Georgetown and plans to open a smaller location in Union Station. A couple of weeks ago, I was fortunate to sample some of Ladurée’s delicacies at a Georgetown brunch with some of my fellow creatives.
Not only does Ladurée create ridiculously decadent pastries and their famous macarons but you can also enjoy breakfast, lunch, brunch, afternoon tea and aperitif in their Georgetown location. My brunch featured homemade yogurt, an amazing avocado toast and French toast that could only be described as sinful and yes I got the macarons.
On the other side of town will be the Union Station location. One of its unique features will be a distinct To-Go menu, packaged on site for the travelling-set. Travelers will be able to grab fresh salads presented in clear jars, an assortment of mini sandwiches to be mixed and matched with macarons and freshly baked pastries.
Just like Ladurée pays tribute to Washington with its Cherry Blossom Gift Box, a gift box of 6 assorted macarons decorated with blooming cherry blossoms, I pay tribute by dressing for the brunch. I chose a pastel green pair of slacks for the occasion paired with a blue blazer and blue print bow tie.
My tip? Men can get away with pastel especially at Ladurée! I like wearing it as an accent in things like a tie or pocket square. For a little bolder look, try statement pants or a blazer however as a full suit may be way over the top.
