For a long time, the briefcase was the bag men carried to hold their stuff. However times have changed. Today there are a myriad of bag designs to choose from. While we may not be carrying as much paper, we still need to cart around a bunch of crap (laptop, tablet, lunch, etc). Now that fall is here, it may be time to revisit your bag choice. I’m actually on the hunt for something new myself. Here are five men’s bags to carry this fall.

I have to admit I am partial to the tote. Totes tend to be my go to bag of choice. They can be found in a variety of styles as well as various shapes. For Fall look for traditional shapes from favorites as Shinola, Want Les Essentiels and Michael Kors. While luxury brands such as Bottega Veneta, Alexander Wang and Salvatore Ferragamo have some more unique styles. I can definitely see a new tote as one of the men’s bags to carry this fall.
The Backpack

Once I graduated from college I decided that it was time to part from my old faithful backpack. Abandoning the backpack was a sign of maturity and I needed to have a briefcase. It was all about the Coach bag and I still have one to this day. But just like me the briefcase has grown up and continues to be one of the best selling bags for men. The Cross Body and The Messenger
Messenger and cross body bags are perfect for the man on the go. Worn over the shoulder these are favorites among the commuters and cyclists. Cross body bags are typically smaller and are great if you don’t have too much to carry. They’re ideal to hold a tablet or phone and won’t take up a lot of space on a bus or the Metro. The closest cousin to the briefcase, today’s messenger bags are the nice cross between backpack and briefcase.

The Portfolio
The portfolio, sometimes called a clutch or pouch, is the smallest of all bags. It’s ideal if you really don’t have a lot carry. You may find one that will hold a tablet and maybe a few documents but that’s about it. As we tend declutter, portfolio will help you keep the crap in your bag to a minimum. If choosing a portfolio for one your men’s bags to carry this fall, opt for something with a little character.
