My approach to great style

One of my favorite parts about attending New York Fashion Week is to see how the designers put together their looks to send down the runway. I like the creativity that goes into the styling. Sometimes if it matches with my aesthetic, my thought is that I’d wear the outfit or look exactly as it’s shown. Other times I don’t care for the styling but I’ll gravitate to certain pieces in the look and wonder how I’d rock it differently. That’s my approach to great style.

I guest that’s kind of my approach to dressing as well. I think great style is the ability to put pieces together to create an amazing overall look. To that end, I don’t always think a look must be from the same designer from head to toe. While sometimes that can be the case, more often than not, I like to mix pieces from different brands/designers to create my own unique look.

That includes mixing high and low end brands together. This look from New York Fashion Week was quite the mix. High end from Dior and Bally mixed with the accessibility of Zara make up my great style. I had been eyeing my Bally loafers for some time. What you can’t tell from the pics is that they are convertible. The unconstructed heel can be fold down converting the shoe into more of a slide.

My coat was from Zara. Zara really killed it for Autumn/Winter with their outerwear. There were really some incredible designs. That is if you were luck enough to grab one. And if you hit it during their sale you really got a steal. I will admit it’s not one of my warmer coats but if it’s not sub degree cold, it’s a good winter coat that looks fantastic at a really good price. Watch out for their Spring/Summer coats that are coming out now. It looks like their streak is continuing.

Completing my great style were wool stretch pants from John Varvatos and blue tie from Hugo Boss, white shirt by Saks. (I told you my look was quite the mix.) Pro tip – You should always have a crisp white shirt. Saks Fifth Avenue makes a great one. Pick them up at Off Fifth, you can get them for about 1/3 of the price.
