Spring is here and while the weather can be a little tricky here in DC, it’s still time to break out the warmer weather clothing. I’m really excited about spring in DC. Normally I’m jonesing over the fall/winter selections but this year, I think there’s some fashion options to try to up your style game. One of my favorite trends this season is incorporating a pop of color in your styling.
Although I can go a bit bold in my wardrobe choices, sometimes too much of a good thing can be a bit over the top or costumey. Bold colors like this cornflower linen shirt or these striking yellow boat shoes can add spark to traditional looks. It’s not always about the avant garde styles that make an outfit standout. For spring, add just a pop of color to your look. In my case it’s the bright yellow shows. Although one could argue that the shirt also adds that pop as well.
I have been a fan of Psycho Bunny for awhile. I think, the bunny head with the skeleton bones adds a little bit of fun to its pieces. Admittedly, if I was wearing a logoed shirt it would be either have the infamous polo player or the alligator
on it. However I’m finding the bunny is whimsical and a great addition for spring especially in this cornflower blue. Price point wise the shirts run around the same range as Polo or Lacoste but you can find deals at Nordstrom Rack and Saks Off Fifth. Locally you can find the Psycho Bunny collection at Stitched at MGM National Harbor.
This year I rediscovered the Sperry Topsider. When I was a kid, these were must haves in my closet. Yes I was a bit of a prep so naturally I had to have this classic boat shoe. But over time, I felt that the boat shoe was the old school frat boy shoe and I hadn’t really given it a second thought. But during New York Fashion I had a chance to give the shoes a new look. Bold colors and design you own styles caught my attention. Plus Sperry’s Bionic collection is made with material that’s spun from plastic recovered from marine and coastal environments. It’s their effort to break the cycle of plastic pollution worldwide. Working with Waterkeeper Alliance, they’ve launched the Ocean Plastic Recovery Initiative, with plastic recovery facilities built to protect coastal and marine environments around the world. Waterkeeper Alliance is the largest and fastest growing nonprofit solely focused on clean water.
