Recently I had a chance to invite some of the guys out for a night of whiskey tasting. This time of year is always busy with a variety of social events. So it was nice to gather the boys for a few drinks, relax and just hang out it. And what better place to spend the evening than at the Georgetown Whiskey Room? After all, according to Eater DC, it is one of the city’s essential whiskey bars. In addition, they just won the Best Cocktail Experience in North America as well as Best Cocktail Experience in the World at the Global Irish Pub Awards in Galway.
The Georgetown Whiskey Room is located upstairs at Ri Ra on M Street right in the heart of Georgetown. It features one of the most extensive ranges of Irish whiskeys in America, including a number of rare bottles, as well as some unique to the Whiskey Room. Our whiskey tour featured 3 whiskeys to savor for the night. Guided by whiskey expert, Anthony it was a night not only of education but great comeraderie.
Whiskeys
Widow Jane – a bourbon from Brooklyn, New York
Auchentoshan – a 12 year Lowland Single Malt Whiskey from Scotland
Teeling Single Malt – from Dublin, Ireland
With its Irish pub feel, the Georgetown Whiskey Room pays tribute to Ireland and was the perfect place to sip a few glasses of this special elxir. The bar itself and the cabinets were restored from Madigans watchmaker and jeweller on Ellis Quay, Dublin. While the paneling for the Whiskey Room came from the well-known Royal Bank Of Ireland on Baggot.
Along with the fantastic ambiance and some great tasting whiskeys, we also tried several of the Georgetown Whiskey Room’s signature dishes. The pub serves up a variety of some small plates which where designed to pair well with the whiskeys we sampled. The dishes were based on the room’s rotating menu. Every few months, the Whiskey Room changes out some of the dishes. Our menu included:
Menu
Grilled Oysters
Short Rib Poutine
Pepper & Feta Skillet
Maple Bourbon Sliders
Brownies
What to wear for a night out with the boys
Always trying to keep up my dapper game and since I hosted the event right after work, you can never go wrong with classic business attire.
Charcoal suit – Burberry (Fashion tip: I got my suit from the Burberry outlet. They typically get their merchandise from the local full price stores in the area. Hit it on a sale day and you can make out like a bandit!) | Striped shirt – Hugo Boss | Burgundy tie – Hugo Boss | Pocket square – Ties.com
I love showcasing great spots around the city and hope to be doing more events in the future. Want to join in the party, subscribe to my site and keep a look out for future events!
