As someone with a full time job as well as trying to be a very active creative/content creator I’m always on the go. The idea of self care seems almost foreign to me. So when Sylvia, my good friend of Simply Sylvia suggested we take a day to pamper ourselves, I thought it would be a great idea. We were given the opportunity to try out the new French high performance skin care line, Codage, at The Spa at Four Seasons Washington DC.
We were invited to experience a facial using the new Codage Facial line. So we thought why not make a day of it? “Let’s do our facials together and grab lunch, “ Sylvia proposed. To me I thought it was an excellent idea. Typically, giving these opportunities, I’m more about the experience and sharing with you, my readers and followers. And while I normally enjoy what’s happening I don’t often take the time to reflect on the experience myself.
What is self-care?
According to PsychCentral, self-care is “any activity that we do deliberately in order to take care of our mental, emotional, and physical health. Although it’s a simple concept in theory, it’s something we very often overlook. Good self-care is key to improved mood and reduced anxiety. It’s also key to a good relationship with oneself and others.”
Admittedly, I don’t always try to deliberately take care of myself. Sure I go to the gym but that’s out of necessity. I make time for friends but lately it’s at events all across town. And with a busy work and active life, I rarely take time for myself. Don’t get me wrong I love hitting the events and showcasing the experiences. However I recognize that it’s also important to take time for myself and do things exclusively for me.
I love a good spa day. During my annual vacation I normally take one day for spa treatments. Several years ago when a good friend and I got laid off from our jobs, we treated ourselves to an amazing spa experience. So while a day at the spa may not be a your idea of self care, it’s ideal for me.
Why not pamper yourself at the Four Seasons?
For those who enjoy a five star experience in Washington, DC, the Four Seasons is one of the places not to be missed. It’s been around for nearly 40 years and stands as welcoming destination when you enter into Georgetown. Don’t tell anyone but on the day I visited Kayne and Kim West were guests in the hotel. You can always enjoy a great meal at Bourbon Steak. Plus during the holiday season, they host Light Up the Season, a family-friendly community fundraising event to benefit Children’s National. During that event they create holiday trees, mantelpieces, wreaths, menorahs and artwork – all available for purchase. And of course there’s the spa. A day of beauty was what was on our agenda.
We decided to get facials and have a leisurely launch. The Spa at Four Seasons just launched a new collaboration with Codage and we were going to be some of the first in the DC area to try out the brand. Codage is a French cosmetics brand whose expertise is based on the formulation of serums. The brand was founded in 2010 by the brother and sister team of Julien and Amandine Azencott. My facial consisted of utilizing a combination of serums to combat my skin issues. On me they used Serum N.02 Anti-Shine and Imperfections Serum, Serum N.03 Radiance and Energy Serum and Serum N.02 Anti-Shine and Imperfections Serum. Honestly, in my teens and twenties I never had a problem with acne but not I guess time has decided to play a cruel joke.
Lately, I’ve been breaking out like crazy and I was worried that they would have to use an entire vat instead of a few drops to fight my skin problems. However only a few drops was what it took. After my facial my face felt cleaner, less greasy and much less acne prone. (True talk. If facials are a form of relaxation, watch out for the extraction phase! Those who’ve had a facial know what I mean!)
Once my facial was done, Sylvia and I met up and relaxed in the lounge area. Here we were treated to a glass of champagne. If you’re going to pamper yourself, I suggest you take advantage of all the amenities. It was nice to be able to just sit and catch up with a friend with no set agenda. I was truly enjoying my day of self care! Finally we headed to lunch. A crab cake for me and kale salad for Sylvia made for the perfect lunch time meal between two friends. And of course, more champagne!
Self Care Results
Naturally, when two or more creative get together, there must be some law where they have to create content! With a fresh face and a full belly, I shot a few pictures of Sylvia for the gram and had her shoot my Saturday look. After a little respite, it was back to the grind! What I realized that it’s okay to take time for yourself. It’s not selfish it’s just a way to help you be the best you. If you get anything out of this, remember to take time for yourself, you’ll thank me for it!
