It’s fair to say that social media has changed the face of fashion. The ability to live stream, Instagram and Tweet fashion shows means that we have access to upcoming looks much sooner than in the past. It’s the designers and brands that adapt to this changing dynamic that will ultimately be successful. That’s why I was excited to take part in GQ x Perry Ellis’ 100 Pieces of Perry.
Knowing that bloggers and social influencers are leading this new change. Perry Ellis partnered with 100 menswear bloggers to showcase their Fall 2016 collection. I was fortunate to be in that number and along with 99 of my fellow bloggers presented the collection all on Instagram using the hashtags #100PiecesofPerry and #VeryPerry.
What was great about the 100 Pieces of Perry campaign was that each blogger had the chance to showcase their own personal style using Perry Ellis clothing. What resulted was a unified collection that was Very Perry yet also showcased individual personality. Along with the Instagram fashion show, the pictures were also made available on the company’s website where people can now shop the Perry Ellis pieces.
Another great aspect of the presentation is the recognition of the new paradigm that says people don’t always were the same designer from head to toe. While some of the looks were all Perry others combined their great Perry piece with other brands to make an outstanding overall look. What was my piece? It was the Textured Crew Neck Sweater in plum. I paired it with plaid pants, light merlot dress shirt and tie to make a great business casual look. I finished with a navy hat and a pair of lace boots. Sweaters in autumn colors, bold plaid pants, hats & boots are all great mainstays this season.
